The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I read this book since it was being compared to Gone Girl and Before I Go to Sleep. It's also been on the NY Times Best Sellers for 12 weeks now and that got me convinced to read this.

Photo from goodreads.com

I found this book generally fast-paced. I got confused at first with the dates but when it was easy to get the hang of it. There were three narrators for this book. With that in mind, I didn't feel like there were three persons narrating. They sounded the same and talked the same so it got boring in some places.

What I like about this book is that I couldn't predict the outcome at all. Unlike with other thrillers and suspense, this has kept me on my toes until the last few pages. Human emotions and relationships were realistically conveyed, capturing the dark essence of humanity.

I still like Gone Girl better. Maybe because I read that first and I had such high expectations with this book. That said, this is still a good read.

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

The Undomestic Goddess is a book written by the author of the famous Shopaholic series, Sophie Kinsella. I enjoyed reading the Shopaholic series so I decided to give this a try.

Photo from goodreads.com

Samantha Sweeting is a lawyer who is up for partnership, a feat she's been working very hard for for years. However, all chances of a promotion disappeared when she made the worst mistake that a lawyer like her can make. She has a breakdown and accidentally ends up being a housekeeper. Samantha now has a new problem - she doesn't know how to do any kind of house work. Sophie Kinsella tells of how she begins again. She tells how Samantha learns how to cook, iron, sew and how she finds love in the process. But can she ran away from her problems forever?

I personally like this book better than the Shopaholic series. I sometimes get annoyed with the Shopaholic lead's Becky. This didn't happen at all with Samantha.

This isn't entirely a light read since there are serious parts too. However, the way Sophie Kinsella wrote this made this a light read. This is a good read if you're looking for a book you can read in your down time.

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

This is my first time reading a Jennifer Crusie book. I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback and the ratings are high so I gave it a try. And much to my surprise, it is really good.

Bet Me is a romantic comedy that tells of the love story of Minerva Dobbs, a thirty-three year old woman who is not thin, and Calvin Morrisey, a guy who could be described as God's gift to women. Their love story started with a bet but could they make it last?

I love the way that this was written. It was light, witty and funny. I guarantee that you'll be laughing your head off with Bet Me. If you're looking for a read that will take the aftertaste of a dark-themed or heavy book, this is highly recommended.

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

If you're looking to read a romance novel that will touch your heart, you don't have to look any further. A Walk to Remember is one of Nicholas Sparks's bests. It is certainly one of the best romance novels out there.

This book tells of the beautiful love story of Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan. Landon didn't think that he was the type of guy who'd fall for someone like Jamie, a Baptist minister's daughter. But he did, slowly and surely. Jamie showed him a depth and goodness of heart that utterly and irrevocably changed him forever.

Nicholas Sparks has woven an unforgettable story that will entrance you and stir your deepest emotions. A Walk to Remember is guaranteed to move you.

The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

A lot of people don't even know that there's a book that goes before The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in The Chronicles of Narnia. Most just head right on to the first book but you wouldn't really get the feel of the story if you skip this one.

Photo from goodreads.com

The Magician's Nephew tells of how Narnia was created. It also gives us a good look at Queen Jadis. Did you even know that Queen Jadis has already been to London? I had a fun time imagining her experience there. But my favorite part in this book is when Aslan, the Lion was creating Narnia. It was beautiful reading that part.

If you liked reading The Chronicles of Narnia, this is a must read so you know the beginnings and origins - from Narnia, to Queen Jadis, to the lamp post and the Wardrobe.
