The Dark Half...Stephen King

This book is about an author Thad Beaumont who is a recovering alcoholic and husband. He writes these very dark stories under an alias George Stark. Then this "George Stark" comes to life and starts killing people. It's a really good read. Come to find out the author actually has a twin in utero whom he absorbed and was removed from him as a child. So now he deals with massive headaches and the people that know about it begin to wonder if it's his headaches that are causing his split personality or if that twin still has a hold on him somehow. It's amazing the details put into the story such as that when Thad is taken over by Stark mentally he leaves notes and even has completely different handwriting. The notes explain to Thad what Stark does while he's in control. Even watching his family. They seem to be able to have a bond as twin's sometimes are thought to. Including feeling each other's pain and at times reading each other's mind. By the end of the book Thad's wife is having serious doubts about the future of their marriage and is especially worried about the fact that Thad seems to like this other half...this "dark half" of himself.

The Shack

No, I haven't finished my current novel but was thinking that I wanted to remember to mention a certain book to you all so I figured I should mention it now so I didn't forget lol.
This wonderful book even though I'm not a religious person by any means is a good read. It made me wonder, it made me smile, it made me cry. If you're looking for something to give you a little inspirations while going through a dark time you should definitely look into this book.

John Grisham's Gray Mountain

So I know this isn't a short story either but I love John Grisham. I just started reading Gray Mountain.

It's really good so far (as are the other novels I've read by him). It's centered around a lawyer who was laid-off from her job at some big time Wall Street Law Firm in Manhattan. Then the recession hits and the firm downsizes and she gets furloughed and escorted out of the building. She has to choose one out of a list of places (provided to her) to intern for x amount of time as part of the furlough. She decides to take one in some podunk town in Virginia right smack in the middle of Appalachia. So she's getting a taste of "real people" with "real problems" as she put it. So far that's where I am in the story and it's pretty good. If you've never read as John Grisham novel and like to read you should definitely check out one of his books.

My latest read....

The latest book I've read is the second book of the The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King called The Drawing of the Three. If you've never read it or any of Stephen Kings books I'd suggest you do so. You are missing out. I love how in this book it defies our sense of what's possible and takes you on a journey though the mind of multiple characters that end up having a common thread in their stories. Even though each character is from a different time once you get to know the string of events it's easy to piece together the happenings that led them to where they currently are in life. I'm trying not to give too much away because I hate to spoil it for anyone who may be intrigued enough to read it for themselves but what I will say is I'm definitely on the search for the next book in the series.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book? If so did you like it? Did you read the entire series? If you haven't read this book do you even like Stephen King as an author? Have you read any of his books? I'd like to know your thoughts/opinions.

Thanks All!!

Things to share

I love to read and because of that I love to share what I read with others in hopes that those who don't enjoy it as much as I do will find start to understand the magic a book or short story can breath into your mind.

With that being said this blog will be about just that...short stories and books I've read. If you have any that you like and would like to share please feel free to share them in the comments.
